We are sure that you are conscious of the issues facing our planet in the coming years and so we want to let you know what we are doing to try to reduce our Carbon footprint and minimise the planet's resources that we use.
We investigated the environmental impact of both plastic and paper carrier bags and on balance made the decision that there was not sufficient benefit in switching to paper bags. At the same time we recognised that we needed to reduce plastic bag usage so in October 2008 we introduced two different versions of reusable bags and started to make a small 5p charge for carrier bags. In the following 12 months we have seen the use of plastic bags reduce by two thirds and we would like to thank you all for your support.
We also know that our business is packaging intensive and so we try very hard to reuse all of the packaging that we receive when goods are delivered to us. We calculate that we are able to reuse over 50% of packaging and at the moment this means that we only have to purchase in envelopes. All of the boxes that we use to send your parcel to you when you order via mailorder or via the internet are from deliveries that we have received! We are also able to also reuse all bubble wrap and airbag packaging that comes with our deliveries and have recently found a local supplier who can supply preused boxes from other companies so should we get to a point where we are not able to meet our needs from within we have a good green option.
We are trying hard to reduce the amount of paper we use in the office and all wate paper is shredded and recycled. We also have a mechanism for recycling our printer ink cartridges and franking machine cartridges.
If you have ideas on how we can do better we would love to hear from you.
